The history of the winemaker
The Falgueyret family has been cultivating vines for 80 years in Jugazan, on one of the highest points of the Gironde. This wine-producing village is located 15km south of Saint-Émilion and for decades, the harvests were designed for the nearby cooperative cellar.
At a very young age, Jérôme developed a passion for winemaking and maturing wines, and he gained valuable experience at several wine estates. In 2001, Jérôme bought a 7 hectares property and decided to create his first vintage, convinced as he was that he had land that was unique under his feet : it was a revelation !
The clay-gravel soil of his land allows the Merlot grape, the only variety on the estate, to express itself fully so that the wines produced are dense and deep, with fleshy and ripe fruit that remains fresh and fitting for ageing. For 14 years, the vineyard grew and so did the cellar !
In 2015, a modern and environmentally-friendly cellar was built. 40 hectares of vines are now vinified in a completely isolated cellar, containing thermo regulated stainless- steel tanks of all capacities in order to make a rigorous parcelled selection.
This advancement has allowed us to obtain wines which emphasize the fruit and the greed of the tannins even more, leading them to be recognised and appreciated in various international competitions.
In 2020, Jérôme continued his research by equipping himself with sandstone amphorae for the maturing of a new vintage. His aim is to bring out the particular identity of his terrain: the clays. Aware as he is of his responsibilities towards future generations, he does everything possible to reduce inputs to the vineyard. The property is HVE-certified (High Environmental Value).
